Healthy Homes Project

 

The Santo Domingo Tribal Housing Authority has received funding ($999,947) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for health hazard testing and mitigation. Santo Domingo Tribal Council will provide additional support of $150,000 to the project.

The focus of this initiative will be improving the health and safety for the residents of the Traditional Village homes and other adobe built homes within the blue boundary map below.  The project is considered a pilot project due to the limited amount of funding and short project time.  Part of the project will be data collection to determine the full extent of the health hazards and the costs involved to renovate additional homes in the Traditional Village.

SDTHA will be working with High Water Mark an environmental counsulting firm as well as the local health care providers on the project.

 

Step 1 Apply

If your home is located within the the blue boundary as outlined on the map below

AND

The home is constructed of adobe

AND

The income of the homeowner is within the HUD guidelines listed below

Step 2 Health Hazard Testing

Based on the application information and the site inspections, 80 residences will be selected for lead-based paint, asbestos and mold testing. Priority will be given to homes with Elders and young children.

 

Step 3 Health Hazard Abatement and Plans for remediations in 50 residences

Based on the home’s overall conditions and the testing results, homes will be selected to receive one or more of the following remediations and repairs:

  • Lead and mold remediations and repairs
  • Lead-based paint remediation
  • Asbestos remediation
  • New ventilation systems for bathrooms & kitchens to reduce mold and mildew
  • Roof repairs/replacements (if the damage is due to mold and/or mildew)
